When Someone Tells You… I Believe in You Written for Carolyn DeCrevel, a teacher and mentor to me and so many young people. Thank you for all you’ve done, Mrs. D – love you! - Kelli Some people in our lives They shine a little brighter They stand out from the rest To help us be the best we can be Some people will live on Beyond the span of one short life When a heart is bigger than The chest it's beating in It sets fire -- it sets fire Where it warms up the coldest and the lonely Giving guidance like a beacon On a dark and moonless night It may only take a moment But a moment may be all that you need When someone tells you I believe… Chorus: x2 I believe in you I believe in you I believe I believe in you Some people become part of us We take them with us everywhere At times when we’re alone And need to feel at home They are there – always there These people must decide To give pieces of them away It’s one thing to be known Another thing to help others— Become whole To warm up the coldest and the lonely Giving guidance like a beacon On a dark and moonless night It may only take a moment But a moment may be all that you need When someone tells you I believe… Chorus: x2

about

I wrote this song for a former mentor, Carolyn DeCrevel, who was a teacher and coach at the high school I attended. This woman single handedly helped so many students, myself included, get through personal struggles as well as to help shape our lives and futures. She was a wonderful inspiration and is an amazing human being! In addition to the song, there are 26 recorded expressions of gratitude from Mrs. DeCrevel's former students and colleagues -- just a small representation of the hundreds and hundreds of people whose lives she has impacted in such a positive and memorable way! Thank you, Mrs. D!

This recording and accompanying expressions of gratitude were made remotely and maintaining social distance during quarantine, so many of the recorded testimonials were read by recording artists from all over the country who offered their time to help represent the people who had submitted written expressions of gratitude to Mrs. DeCrevel.

Song written and vocals by Kelli Caldwell, one of Carolyn’s former students, instruments and production by Bryan Daste at Dream Tree Studios NW. Mastered by Specialized Mastering.

about

Kelli Caldwell Portland, Oregon

With her distinct vibrato, Caldwell’s sound is very unique. Though compared to that of Alanis Morrisette, Gigi Love, or “a cross between Tracy Chapman and Nancy Griffith,” her voice and style are all her own. But it’s the lyric, the storytelling that drives her…“I love trying to settle into someone else’s soul for awhile, trying to tell their story honestly.” ... more
